Random thoughts, reblogs of cool, amusing or rage inciting posts, things that make me snicker and pretty pretty people that I like to look at.

I use the tag 'trigger' or 'trigger warning' for those who need them, HOWEVER I do not label them any further than that. Life does not come with warning labels.

Quote reblogged from They're Giving Me an ASBO with 1,286 notes

My embrace of a pro-choice stance is not built on analogizing Rick Santorum with Hitler. It is not built on what the pro-life movement is “like.” It’s built on set of disturbing and ineluctable truths: My son is the joy of my life. But the work of ushering him into this world nearly killed his mother. The literalism of that last point can not be escaped.

Every day women choose to do the hard labor of a difficult pregnancy. It’s courageous work, which inspires in me a degree of admiration exceeded only by my horror at the notion of the state turning that courage, that hard labor, into a mandate. Women die performing that labor in smaller numbers as we advance, but they die all the same. Men do not. That is a privilege.

Black Woman Set On Fire In Louisiana By 3 Neo-Nazis For Wearing Obama Shirt
KNOE 8 News has received confirmation from the Winnsboro Police that they are working with the Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office investigating a woman allegedly attacked and burned on Sunday night.
According to the Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office, Sharmeka Moffitt was on a walking trail in a city park when she was attacked. It happened about 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
She was taken to a hospital in Winnsboro and then transported to LSU Hospital in Shreveport.
A friend of the Moffitt family confirmed to us that she is in stable condition but 90% of her body has been burned.
Friends of the family also tell us the KKK was allegedly involved in the attack.
Whoever said we were living in post-racial America lied. We’ll keep you updated more on the victim and this disgusting hate crime.

Why Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are EVIL MONSTERS
In a vile and disgusting example of 1) the misogynistic extremism that has taken over the Republican Party, and 2) the despicable dishonesty of Republican claims of favoring ‘small government’,  Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are not only in favor of Outlawing Birth Control, they are in total support of making State-Mandated, Non-Consensual, Non-Medically Necessary Vaginal Probing the law of the land.
For men who think this doesn’t concern them: this is already the law in several Republican-controlled states and if these monsters gain national power, every state will have the right to do this to your wife, girlfriend, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, niece — even your mother if she’s young enough — without her consent and against her will.
Make no mistake: Romney and Ryan are Totalitarian Religious Extremists, the  ringleaders of The American Taliban, and it is up to YOU to get the word out to every woman you know — especially women who are not paying attention to politics.
They should be.
The only path forward for women of our nation is the UTTER DESTRUCTIONof this Republican Party.

DFAB folks of any gender really

For anyone who doubts whether this procedure is truly “invasive”, it is.
I had this done (consensually) as part of a larger battery of tests to diagnose pelvic pain (it turns out I’m like my mother and while I do not have PCOS, I am prone to cysts, hence birth control for both that and not being pregnant). Even as a procedure I agreed to and was able to mentally prepare for it was incredibly stressful and painful, and I have no history of sexual trauma. I can’t even imagine knowing I had no ability to refuse this and it’s unthinkable to do this to someone who has experienced sexual trauma.
These laws are disgusting and so is anyone who supports them.

I am so glad I don’t live in America, if someone came at me with one of those I would kill them.

I started writing again because Todd Akin is an idiot.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of other people who think exactly like he does. They sit in rooms and parse words and swap personal and governmental favors. Then they draft actual legislation designed to stop women from being…

Let me state that I am pro-choice. No one has the right to make a decision about my body but me, and that includes pregnancy. I’d don’t honestly agree with a bit of what she is saying, but she says it clearly and calmly and it’s something that should be heard.

Fat Shaming in the Pagan Blogosphere →

This is an excellent response to the blogpost that started it all by Peter Dybing at http://paganinparadise.blogspot.com/2012/07/normal.html

This subject hits my triggers on so many levels and its hard for me to respond rationally to fat shaming. I am a fat person. I was going to list how my eating habits and exercise is not a contributing factor to my weight but then realized I was trying to give excuses as to why even though I am fat, you shouldn’t hold it against me.

Fuck that shit. What I eat and don’t eat are none of you goddamn business. Same with exercise. That is between me, my family and my doctor. No one else has a say in it.

As a teenager I lived for over a year on less than 1000 calories a day along with being on a drill team and a swim team. The damage done to my metabolism and body have long term affects that will be with me the rest of my life. Even at my lightest I still weighed 130lbs on a 5’6” frame - at the time the charts told me that I was still considered obese and needed to drop another 25 lbs.

After 30+ years I have learned to love my body, fat, scars, stretchmarks and all - but it is still a constant battle and fat shaming from my community does nothing but make me angry.

Until you live in my body, please don’t assume that you can make judgments about my health, weight, or me.

Trigger Warning: Rape, Sexual Assault →

xekstrin:brodinsons:

Lance Corporal Nicole McCoy wants soldiers who are found guilty of rape and sexual assault in the military to be discharged and identified on a national sex offender registry.

I joined the military because I wanted to protect my country. It never occurred to me to ask who would protect me from my fellow soldiers.

I served as a Lance Corporal in the Marines for over three years. During that time, I was raped twice and sexually assaulted twice more. It happened so often that I assumed it must be normal.

After I left the Marines, I learned that some studies estimate that more than half of all women who serve in the US military are raped during their service. But according to current military law, military rapists are not required to list their crimes on their discharge papers or to register as sex offenders.

I don’t think it’s right that convicted sex offenders get to wipe their records clean when they leave the military. That’s why I started a petition on Change.org demanding that the Department of Defense require convicted sex offenders to register on a national database, as well as disclose this information on their discharge papers — will you sign it?

Click here to add your name.

When I tried to find out why military sex offenders don’t have to disclose their crimes on their discharge papers, I was told it would take too long to create a national database, and even that the military is trying to “go green,” and it takes too much paper to add an extra checkbox to discharge papers.

The truth is that most military sex offenders never have to pay for their crimes. Studies say that only 14% of rapes in the military are reported, and only 8% result in a court martial. And those who do get convicted get to wipe their records clean as soon as they leave the military.

When I tried to report what happened to me, I was led through a maze of questions and excuses. It felt like no one wanted to hear what happened to me. Instead of getting justice, I was ostracized and humiliated. But I’m not going to stand by in silence anymore. I know that if enough people sign my petition, the Department of Defense will be forced to address this issue.

Click here to sign my petition demanding that the Department of Defense register soldiers convicted of sexual assault in military courts in a national database, as well as disclose this information on their discharge papers.

Thank you,

Lance Corporal Nicole McCoy
